Mike Stehlin hails from Bethlehem Pennsylvania and is entering his final semester at Penn State. Since his freshman year Mike has excelled in the classroom, having earned Dean’s List recognition in each of his first six semesters. He has been involved in several professional, philanthropic and other organizations in order to round out his college experience and prepare him for his future career.
During his freshman year Mike joined The LION 90.7 FM, Penn State’s student radio station. He began producing and broadcasting Penn State baseball games in the spring of his first year and soon became a regular panelist on The Sports Blitz, the station’s daily hour long sports talk show. The following year Mike began doing both play by play and color commentary for Penn State’s football, basketball and baseball teams. He was also given regular hosting duties for the show.
This year Mike is the Staff Head for The Sports Blitz. He oversees the daily broadcast of The Sports Blitz Monday-Friday. Mike is also responsible for arranging the station’s broadcasts of Penn State Sports. Over the years Mike has gained a wealth of experience from his work with the station. Whether it is production work, live remote broadcasts of sporting events, public relations, etc., Mike has practical experience in the day to day operations of the fully FCC licensed station.
Mike also joined the student television station, PSNTV. As a member of the sports show he received his first on camera experience. As a videographer, reporter and editor, Mike covered just about every sport at Penn State in his two years with the club.
Aside from those two clubs Mike is very involved in other parts of his community. An Eagle Scout, Mike is a National Staff member of the Boy Scouts of America. This past summer he worked as an Out Island Mate at the Florida Sea Base. Mike is also very proud of his heavy involvement in THON, the largest student-run philanthropy in the world.
Between his coursework, extracurricular activities, and other experiences Mike has developed a strong background to prepare him for a career in journalism.
